Building a Lifetime of Literacy
The 6th Grade Rowdy Readers are enjoying their Title 1 after school experience. We are currently working on using "context clues." When using context clues you use the clues within a sentence to help determine the meaning of an unfamiliar word. We read the tall tale "Pecos Bill" and decided that we needed TALL hats to make our context clue practice more fun. We set up bases around the room and practiced answering questions in order to earn points. The students won Tuesday's game, but I have a feeling I might catch up today.

iReady is a technology-based program used to help fill in educational gaps in the student's current knowledge. An instructional learning path is created within the iReady website. The students' learning paths are designed to meet students' educational needs. We have seen students enjoy use of the program and research shows the program has great success. We can't wait to see the progress of iReady this year. Happy Learning!Google Chromebooks are here! Many 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade students received their Chromebooks this week. We are so excited to begin using them to apply our academics with technology. Some of our 6th graders are using Google Classroom. They have the opportunity to show what they have learned using Google Slides. This real-world application is fun and engaging. We can't wait to see what our learning has in store for us!
The year is off to a great start! Students are eager to learn and read. Teachers are eager to guide and motivate.
What's in the works for this year: We are continuing to promote reading with Accelerated Reader. Students will read lots of books this year and then take A.R. quizzes to earn points. The points that they earn will allow them to shop at the A.R. Store in grades K-3 for fun prizes and in grades 4-6, students will earn visits to the A.R. Snack Shack! We are excited to share these incentives with the students and are always accepting donations to help with the A.R. Store and the A.R. Snack Shack. Donations Needed: Small toys, stuffed animals, puzzles, trinkets, school supplies, art supplies, individual snacks, cookies, crackers, chips, caffeine free small cans of sodas, juice boxes, candy... |
